Let's talk about a heat wave...

Holy cow!! I think that I've mentioned that we are loving our house! But over the past week there is nothing that could have topped just having our own place with AC. It doesn't matter that it is 110 outside when you can sit inside with it at a cool 75...I know that my brother and sister-in-law would still consider this too hot, but this is a temperature where Alex can stay comfortable with a fan on, and I stay comfortable with a sweatshirt on. So, 75 is our compromise...and we don't feel like ridiculous energy gluttons. The 110 is not an exaggeration either, Alex's car said it was 112 the other day! When you open the door it just feels like a dragon is breathing fiery breath right in your face. Personally, with the state of CA legalizing gay marriage right in the midst of it, I feel that we are just so close to hell that we can feel the heat.
The heat is putting a little damper on our home repair projects. We have a ton that needs to be done outside, but you can't be out building retaining walls and painting fences. Just sitting in the shade last week sent me to urgent care for heat stroke.
We are looking forward to my dad coming out in a week or so to help us get some projects done. We have a good list for him, but we'll leave a little time for him to enjoy Alicia as well.
Alicia amazes us every day with the little things that she does. She has a blanket that she has suddenly become very attached to and would take with her everywhere if she could. Since she picked a solid white blanket I try to encourage that it wants to stay in bed, but it is very cute. She throws it over her head and runs around the house like a little ghost. She ran straight into a wall today and didn't cry or remove the blanket or anything, she just changed directions. I bought her a book about being a big sister this week and she likes it, but we have a lot of work to do. In the book the big sister sleeps in a big girl bed, wears big girl underwear, and doesn't have bottles. Sadly, I am just now trying to make myself commit to losing the bottles, our biggest excitement with potty training was a poopy smear across the seat that I think scared her more than anything, and well...I think that she is very content in her crib right now, so who am I to take that away yet. At least I have till the end of January to get some of these things in line. She spent this evening with her Abuelos so that Alex and I could have a little date. It is nice that we are still close enough to see them and utilize their free childcare!! We love them and so does Alicia, we appreciate it so much and we know that they have a blast watching her, and we do enjoy a little bit of time by ourselves.

Alex & Carrie,

Congratulations, twice! A new house and a new baby! Got your blog from your mom and it has been fun to look at all the pics of Alicia. She is growing up fast. Hope the weather gets better, send some of that heat to MI! Love you guys!
